MIKLIÈ TÜRK

The piano is filled with dreams
as if reflecting
the depths of dusk.
Above -
the white hands
of the musician are loosened.
Silence.
As though on a black
marble sea
two white swans were flowing
in search of infinity.
Sreèko Kosovel

This poem of exquisite
sensitivity captures a moment of intense musical experience. With it the
poet expresses the meaning of art as the human yearning for immortality. Who
can express it better than Sreèko Kosovel, one of the leading Slovene poets
of the first half of the twentieth century! He died in 1926 at the age of
22. Had he lived longer, he would have recognized his "two white swans" as
Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin - two living legends, to whom we are
forever grateful for having enriched the world with their sublime artistic
expression and their profound humanism.
